Some people are very technically skilled but have terrible taste.
It's like when you watch a makeup tutorial, and at the start it looks great but towards the end with all of the contour and blush and weird eyeshadows the person starts to look a bit scary. That's how I imagine ancient greek artists.

I’ve seen these reconstructions of what these statues look like painted before. They have always struck me as ugly. There’s no way they took meticulously sculpted pieces and painted them with what looks like the basic 8 color crayola paint set.
