What makes something "good" vs "bad" propaganda?
I've gotten much better at recognizing when even subtle propaganda is propaganda. Which is to say - most movies, books, television shows, and musicals. This is just part of being media literate.
I've mentioned this before on this site but one thing I find really annoying is going into a bookstore, say, and realizing that every book on the shelf has a point of view that is "correct" and they are going to hit you over the head with it for the entire duration of the book.
It is tedious, which is why I've been slowly reading through Jane Austen's catalog again. Austen of course, had her own point of view, but she was the master at telling, not showing. She was also nuanced and didn't pull her punches for anyone.
Is there a piece of media that you've loved for a long time and since recognized as propaganda? Did that change your relationship to it?
