children's stories and life lessons

Children's stories have always been used as a way to convey complex lessons to children, so having a few children's books about difficult subjects seems reasonable to me. On the other hand, when the lessons are so moralizing that the kid tells their mom they don't want to read the book anymore, that book has failed at its primary task, which is to entertain.
