Interestingly, this post from a decade ago is the same story being told now. There’s a massive burst in progress right around the corner, we just need more compute.
The comment in the article about being in the phase of Artificial Narrow Intelligence still applies. LLM’s are a major advancement, but their main application areas in terms of economic impact appear to currently be limited — mainly to software development.
Perhaps this is the course speculated in the article. Teach the machine to be a computer scientist so it can improve itself. Again matching the story being told today.
