Does Gen Z care too much about their looks?

One thing that I've noticed is how made-up so many Gen Z women look. Their hair is perfectly highlighted, they look stylish (but in a way that is very uniform), and they expertly contour their faces.

I see pictures of myself and my friends at the same age, and we wore makeup and got our hair professionally highlighted once in a while. However, we all looked a little bit cringe, like we were playing dress up. No one did their makeup perfectly -- a lot of us were still using powder foundation (yes, it looked awful) and contouring wasn't really a thing for most people who, like myself, barely knew how to use mascara.

Now, makeup tutorials are everywhere. There just seems even more pressure to look a certain way. While I don't know anyone who has gotten cosmetic surgery or admits to getting fillers, the skill level around "dressing for your body" and makeup has definitely increased since I was in my 20s.

Are we more conscious of our appearance, or is it simply easier to find information on how to achieve certain beauty standards?
