Health changes impact friendships
I have heard or read about this multiple times that people who have lost a lot of weight often lose a lot of friends.
This really doesn't surprise me that much.
When I started dealing with a major chronic illness in my 20s, I lost pretty much all of my friends. There is only one person who I am still semi-in touch with from that period of my life.
I suspect we would have grown apart eventually for other reasons, but the serious illness didn't help matters.
I think people get used to who you are -- and that includes your body. When your body changes, even if it is for the better, a lot of people just can't handle it. Maybe because it threatens how they perceive themselves relative to you?
Anyone else experience something like this?
