Current reproductive technology is definitely a work in progress, though without regenerative/longevity medicine, you might be (physically) too old by the time you decide to have a child. I also wish adoption were easier and much less expensive. I still can't believe how difficult the process is.
Egg freezing and buying yourself a bit of time
It's not shocking to me that women are delaying marriage and having children -- if they decide to have children at all.
What I find most interesting about this article is that it leads with egg freezing. Egg freezing (along with "just adopt!") is always suggested as an option for those of us who settled down later or were ambivalent about children in our 20s. But even if you freeze your eggs, there are still many points of failure in the technology that may mean that you never have biological children.
I liked how she described paying for the freezer space for her eggs as a tithe. In many ways, it is a religious payment to preserve a future version of yourself that may or may not exist.

Both seem less than ideal.
Egg freezing/IVF is arduous physically and emotionally.
Adoption is theoretically amazing but people really have to be mentally equipped to nurture and guide a child who comes into your life with tragic origins. I don't know a lot of people who have given up a child for adoption or been adopted themselves. But the ones I do know it was very traumatic and devastating. I knew a woman who gave up a baby at 16 and described it as if her baby had died.
I don't know what the solution is. Lots of pro-natalists want people to have babies young, but personally that would not have worked for me. I was in a pretty shitty relationship in my mid-20s and I am so grateful I am not trying to coparent with him.
