Hard agree. I never turned more quickly on a tv show. I never watched another episode after matthew was killed off. The combination of the two was absurd.

I hate Downton Abbey for killing off both Sybil and Matthew in the same season in nearly identical circumstances. I kept watching hoping that it would improve but it just kept going downhill.

I wish I had stopped after Matthew and Mary got married.
In later episodes Anna (the nicest person on the show, comparable to Sybil imo) gets brutally sexually assaulted by the valet of another aristocrat. This kicks off yet another murder/prison plot line for Anna and Mr. Bates (who in a previous season almost faced the death penalty for the mysterious death of his ex-wife).
The other plot line that jumped the shark was Edith's love child, and her efforts to cover it up by having a local farmer and his wife foster the child. The wife has no idea that the baby is actually Edith's, and gets very attached to this baby she treats as her own daughter. Then Edith decides she actually would like to parent her kid and removes the baby from the farmer and the wife.
It's bollocks, as they say in Britain.
