Jane Austen is my favorite writer
I'm also a big fan of Les Miserables (book and musical) and the fate of Fantine is devastating.
So I always intentionally stop myself from thinking about what Mr. Darcy and Captain Wentworth (Wentworth especially, as a Navy man!) are up to before the novel starts. I'm so grossed out by the idea tha her heroes are frequenting brothels.
Incidentally, the "rake" activity is also what pulls me out of Bridgerton. I don't understand why every one of the "heroes" on that show needs to have a sequence -- or multiple sequences -- where they are having sex with prostitutes.
