It's not just the malls that are dying...
A couple years ago I went to a Macy's at the local mall. I was looking for a professional outfit to wear to an interview.
It was so striking. Nothing was organized and it felt like a TJ Maxx. There were random racks of clothing, people loitering around, not really browsing.
In the mid-2000s I bought my prom dress from a Macy's. It felt like a big deal - Macy's wasn't a super high end department store like Neiman Marcus but it still felt special to buy a formal dress from them.
Now everything feels cheaply made, like the seams will rip out after one wear and the fabric quality is so bad.
