My boomer parents are hoarders

They're not really boomers or hoarders. But they do have a lot of stuff.

Reading the article, god, that jadeite set would look amazing in a whimsigothic home.

My parents are boomers, but they don't have too much stuff. My grandmother, though? It's been over a year since she passed and the family is still going through her things. We've never seen more than half of the stuff she kept in storage. She owned over 1,000 rabbit/Easter decorations. I don't want to see a piece of rabbit-shaped decor ever again.

Oh man, someone close to me is going through something similar. His father died about a year ago and his mother was unable to care for the house by herself. They had lived in their house for decades and just accumulated tons of crap. Tools, unfinished projects, sporting equipment, gear, memorabilia. When they ran out of space in their house they started renting out storage units.

I'm not sure why people start getting fixated on things like Easter and Christmas decorations. I go to estate sales once in a while for fun (I rarely buy anything, because estate sales are a bit of a hoarder cautionary tale) and so many old people have tons of holiday decorations. It's bizarre.

Oof, I'd have a lot less use for that kind of stuff. My grandma grew up during the Great Depression and I thought that might've been a factor, but my oldest aunt's mother-in-law was a minimalist, so I guess it just depends! I'll admit I do go a bit all out for Halloween and Christmas, but my home is small and is reaching max capacity.
