Why is aging so scary?

I've encountered many Zoomers who are obsessed with aging, their own age, and the ages of people around them. When I say that I am in my mid-30s, I have had many Zoomers act shocked (this part is flattering, because many of them assume I am younger than 35), but then they start making "ur old lol" jokes. (I am not offended by this at all, I lean into it a bit so maybe that encourages them). But the common pattern is a fixation on aging. Back in my day, no one talked about aging at all -- we were too busy partying to care about what we would look like in our mid-30s. "Preventative botox" and fillers were not a thing.

I do wonder where this comes from though. Are young people afraid of aging, and being obsessed with aging is a way to reclaim power over it? It seems that a good part of this comes from a fear of looking old, rather than the fear of feeling old.

Or, are people just so afraid of socializing that they aren't going out and partying the way Millennials and Gen Xers did?
